Impact of Visiting Groups – Empower Access Program

The council programmed a one month disability project with international visitors from Kazahkstan, Kyrgystan, and Pakistan; a prime example of innovative programming. While here in Cincinnati, each visitor was placed for one month with a local disabilities organization. One visitor, Yasir, a wheel chair bound Pakistani lawyer who required 24/7 personal care assistance was hosted by the GCWAC. During his time, Yasir and his personal care assistant, Chuck, became like brothers. This was Chuck’s first time working with an international visitor; thus, his first time working with a disabled international visitor as well. Being inspired by Yasir’s drive and positive energy, Chuck secured an electric wheel chair for Yasir to take back to Pakistan. Yasir is more independent in Pakistan than ever because he met one of our own, Chuck.
