Friends in February: The Carol Ann and Ralph V. Haile, Jr./U.S. Bank Foundation
Regarding global education as a whole and why it is so important Leslie Maloney, Senior Vice President and Program Manager of The Carol Ann and Ralph V. Haile, Jr./U.S. Bank Foundation, expressed, “As the world continues to shrink through social and technological connectivity, we must build a citizenry that can live and work in an increasingly complex world. This means we need to deliver a world-class education to all our students that helps them better understand the world—its cultures, its languages, and how all our economic, environmental and social systems work—so they can lead and contribute as global citizens.”
Are you a global citizen? There are many ways to become one. The biggest is through education. You don’t have to reenroll in school to become a global citizen; instead you can simply widen your horizons right here in greater Cincinnati as an adult. Become a member of the Greater Cincinnati World Affairs Council (GCWAC), attend an event, follow our blog, or best of all, participate in the One World Gala & Global Trivia competition!
The Carol Ann and Ralph V. Haile, Jr./U.S. Bank Foundation is kindly supporting us as our Title Sponsor for the One World Gala. The One World Gala is a global trivia competition for business and community members to test and increase their global competency.
On the topic of what we must accept and what has become the new norm, Maloney affirmed, “Global competence represents a crucial shift in what we believe is the purpose of education in a changing world. Globally competent students are life-long learners who are able to adapt and contribute knowledge and understanding to a world that is constantly, rapidly evolving.”
The Greater Cincinnati World Affairs Council has a mission to promote international understanding, education, engagement and cooperation. Combined with our vision of making people culturally aware and respectful of citizenry engaged with the world, we use both forefronts to adapt and implement our educational approach.
The Carol Ann and Ralph V. Haile, Jr./U.S. Foundation is an independent family foundation dedicated to enriching the quality of life for residents in our region.
GCWAC is incredibly grateful for the support of The Haile/U.S. Bank Foundation.
We are thankful for our friends in February! Throughout the month we will be featuring generous individuals and businesses in the greater Cincinnati area that are supporting our organization and our One World Gala.
