Ending Gender Based Violence, US Department of State IVLP Visit to Cincinnati – Joint Conference
Cincinnati, OH – The US State Department’s INTERNATIONAL VISITOR LEADERSHIP program in partnership with the Cincinnati Council on World Affairs toured Valley Interfaith Community Resource Center today and engaged in a discussion on GENDER BASED VICTIMIZATION and POVERTY CYCLE with delegates from Central and South American countries.
The discussion; led by Valley Interfaith, included community partners from the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Sherman, Cincinnati Police Departments LGBTQ Liaison Angela Vance, Sheakley Center For Youth Outreach Manager Ryan Hall and Valley Interfaith Team of John Keuffer, Executive Director, Casey Hinkel Program Director and Alicia Stollenwerk Volunteer Coordinator.
The program has been in operation for many years and this is the fourth such program John and Officer Vance have participated in. The group were able to tour the facilities of Valley Interfaith and then a lively discussion on gender based victimization that included LGBTQ, Poverty, Homelessness and Intimate Partner Violence ensured.
The delegates questioned guests on protocols and procedures they have engaged in; as well as systematic approaches to these issues. By the end of the discussion; it was clear that although languages separate us, clearly the same societal issues impact us similarly.
