Cincinnatian tackles immigration on a national level

Thanks to a $750,000 grant from United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) Strategic National Grant Program, The Ignatian Solidarity Network (ISN) will be able to significantly expand its services towards supporting the justice and dignity of immigrants.
José Cabrera, the new director of education and advocacy on migration, was recently hired to lead these efforts. Cabrera was born in Mexico but grew up in Cincinnati watching his mother organize undocumented workers to fight for fair wages and safe working conditions.
While attending Xavier University, he organized the Youth Educating Society (YES), an immigrant youth-led group working to empower other immigrant youth in Cincinnati, working towards pro-immigration policy, and connecting immigrants with each other.
Cabrera and ISN plan to deepen their commitment to immigrant justice and engage the Ignatian network in a deeper commitment to immigrant justice and promote a culture of hospitality toward those who migrate through encounter, understanding, and action.
