Josh Amstutz, Fulbright Teacher for Global Classrooms

The Academy of Global Studies (AGS) is a school within a school at Winton Woods High School providing an innovative, technology-infused education that positions students to complete, connect and cooperate on a global scale. As an Academic Partner for the Council for over 7 years, AGS is provided with programs and resources on how to bring global awareness and inclusivity to our community. We are so proud of the recent accomplishment of our local teacher at Winton Woods High School.

Josh Amstutz, mathematics teacher and facilitator for the Academy of Global Studies at Winton Woods High School was awarded the Fulbright Teacher for Global Classrooms Program (Fulbright TGC) for the 2019 to 2020 school year.

Fulbright TGC is a year-long professional development opportunity for elementary, middle, and high school teachers to develop skills for preparing students for a competitive global economy. Fulbright TGC equips teachers to bring an international perspective to their schools through targeted training, experience abroad, and global collaboration.

This program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State with funding provided by the U.S. Government and administered by IREX.

The scholarship that I was awarded serves 3 different purposes.  Starting at the end of September, I will embark on a journey of global education and implementation of that education into the classroom.  This is a 10-week intensive course that has the purpose of allowing me to expand my knowledge of global education.  Throughout the course, I will be in constant reflection on an “impact” project that I can incorporate into the classrooms of the Academy of Global Studies as well as other classrooms around Winton Woods City Schools.

Upon successful completion of this course, I will begin to plan my impact project for Winton Woods City Schools and develop a presentation which will occur at the national TGC symposium from January 23-25th in Washington DC.  Following this, I will continue to develop my plan of action for implementing my impact project as I prepare for my 2-week international experience in the summer of 2020.  This experience will serve two purposes.  First, I will get a chance to travel around another area of the world and meet with teachers, administrators, and politicians to understand the education system in that location.  Second, I will be sharing how we incorporate global education into our classrooms in the USA, specifically, at the Academy of Global Studies at Winton Woods.  I will be informed of my placement this upcoming December so that I can adequately prepare for the trip and guide my impact project in the right direction.

I could not be more excited to celebrate this opportunity and give kudos to Winton Woods and the World Affairs Council for preparing me for acceptance into the program as well as a platform for positive change and implementation!

Congratulations to Josh Amstutz, as a Global Partner for the World Affairs Council he improves our impact as he continues to become a leader in preparing Cincinnati to thrive in the 21st-century global environment by promoting international understanding, education, engagement, and cooperation.
