Universal Yums! from Brazil

Yum Yum Adventure with Elsa

Each month at the Council, we enjoy a Universal Yums! box from a variety of countries at our team meetings. Through the recent transition as we #workfromhome our Global Ed Manager, Hannah had the opportunity to share the Yum Yum Box from Brazil with her niece, Jake Ayla (whoops, Elsa)!

Watch this very awkward, silly, adventure of Hannah and her niece as they try some delicious and not so delicious snacks from Brazil (according to Elsa). Click here.

Foods & Flavors

“Brazilian cuisine is packed with rich, tropical flavors: coffee, cassava, coconut, banana, passionfruit, pineapple…and the list continues! These fresh ingredients shine in national dishes like vatapá, a stew made with shrimp and coconut milk, feijoada, a rice and bean dish with roasted cassava flour, and mousse de maracuja, a creamy passionfruit pudding…which you’ll get to taste in this month’s Yum bag!” -Universal Yums

Bib’s Morango Extreme

“Did you know that Brazil is the white chocolate capital of the world? Brazilians eat more white chocolate than any country (about 3 times more than the US), with annual white chocolate sales amounting to $315 million dollars.

Why is it so popular? This Bib’s bar, with creamy white chocolate and bits of dried morango (strawberry) is a great answer to why! Its milky richness balances perfectly with its fruity sweetness, for a white chocolate treat unlike any you’ve tried” – Universal Yums

Elsa’s review: Mmmm!

Bib’s Flocos

“Ready for a Portuguese lesson? You’ll need it for this Yum. The word is flocos, and it means flakes. Here flocos refers to the crunchy flakes of crisped rice sprinkled throughout this popular dark chocolate bar. In a few short seconds, you’re going to be loucos (crazy) for flocos!” – Unviersal Yums

Elsa’s review: That was terrible!

Mandioca Chips Chebola

“Brazil is crazy for cassava (mandioca in Portuguese), a nutty-flavored root vegetable native to the country. It’s been a local staple for over 10,000 years. First domesticated in the Amazon, the vegetable is now ground into a toasted stuffing dish called farofa, boiled into a hearty beef and tomato stew called vaca atolada, or fermented into a flavorful beer called cauim. You’ll get a taste of the ancient veggie with crispy chips, dusted with Brazil’s most popular snack flavoring: onion and parsley. It’s a bit of the (very, very) old and new, all together!” – Universal Yums

Elsa’s review: Blehhh!

In conclusion, this 4 year old held some high standards with the final snack winner being her original choice – Bibo’s Morango Extreme. A wise choice because of Brazil’s title as white chocolate capital of the world! This combination of creamy white chocolate and strawberries had Elsa asking for more by the end of her snack adventure.

Have you tried any of these snacks from Brazil? What snacks would you love to try?
