Fatoumata Sow

She is fluent in three languages (Wolof, French and English) and can read and write in two others (Spanish and Arabic). Her hobbies are cooking for her loved ones and spending time around beautiful natural sites. For Fatoumata, observing nature gives a sense of peace and serenity within one’s self that can help build stronger and healthier relationships with other people. She has also travelled in Africa, the United States and Canada and cannot wait to focus on visiting more rural areas of the world. Fatoumata loves working and conversing with children and elderly people. She loves sharing aspects about her culture and noticing the similarities that exists between people that live in different corners of the world.

Fatoumata has recently joined our team as a Global Education Fellow for the Spring semester of 2021. Her sole purpose will be to facilitate the understanding of international affairs, especially that of her country, for our wide range of students and affiliated school districts. Her work will be concentrated on research, designing presentations, country profiles and foreign policy topics for our global education programs. She will also help promote the spirit of our organization on social media, as well as contributing to the coordination of major events.

Fatoumata is passionate about international conflict resolution, as well as the promotion of women and children’s rights around the world. She believes that in order to achieve the absolutes of such aspirations, education is a central tool to help raise awareness around important global issues that are hindering the march towards a fairer and more peaceful world.

Currently, she is a senior at the Northern Kentucky University where she is majoring in International Studies with a minor in Honors and a focus in Sociology. Although she is an international student from Senegal coming with a diverse perspective on the world, Fatoumata is excited to embark on this journey of learning and exploring aspects of the different cultures and peoples living in the United States.

Fatoumata has also worked as an Intern at the American Red Cross of Cincinnati. She is very centered on human compassion and mutual assistance. She is driven by her conviction that promoting global peace lies on focusing more on our interconnectedness instead of our differences. Learning to understand each other starts with acquiring the right information, through a balanced and open education.

“Diversity is the biggest strength of our human species. If we were all similar, there won’t be room for exploring and learning more about each other. Throughout history, differences of culture, religion and social beliefs have divided people in the worst possible ways; ignoring that those differences are what mirrors the true beauty of humanity. It is therefore important to get out of our comfort zones, in order to embrace new realities, but also in order to offer an understanding of our own to other citizens of the world. My desire to improve global peace and understanding through embracing diversity, is the main reason why I have chosen to be a Global guide.”
