Welcome New Board Members!

We are thrilled to announce that there are two new board members joining the World Affairs Council. Read all about them here:

Cheryl D. Young, PhD

Cheryl is the associate vice president for global education at Miami University. A long-time staff member at Miami, with over 35 years of experience in higher education, Cheryl leads the Global Initiatives Center at Miami. In this role she leads Education Abroad, International Student & Scholars Services, Continuing Education, the Center for American & World Cultures, the International Student Center, and the Miami University Dolibois European Center in Luxembourg. As an international education professional, as well as an experienced administrator in continuing higher education, Cheryl brings multiple perspectives to international education and enthusiastically embraces the ideals of extended and lifelong learning in formal, informal, and virtual settings in locally and globally.Cheryl has an academic background in English Literature, Women’s Studies, and Educational Curriculum and Leadership, with degrees and certifications from Miami University, Harvard Graduate School of Education, and the Wellesley Institute for Leadership & Management in Higher Education. Cheryl is a resident of Oxford, Ohio, and enjoys traveling the world in pursuit of learning opportunities, connections to cultural diversity, and promoting Miami University global initiatives.

Patrick Raverty

Patrick Raverty served as Director of Business Development for Turnbull-Wahlert Construction Company and was responsible for marketing and business development. Previously, Pat served as Director of Business Development for Vector Construction. He also served as Director of Business Development for Baptist Life Communities in Covington, as Chief Operating Officer of Family Service of the Cincinnati Area and as Boone County Director of Community Development and Deputy County Judge/Executive. Pat founded Northern Kentucky Nursing Services, a home health agency which he sold to the St. Luke Hospitals.

Pat has been involved in many civic endeavors and organizations. He was elected and served as a Boone County Commissioner. His community involvement includes serving as President of several organizations including the Northern Kentucky International Trade Association {NKITA}, Catholic Charities, the Covington Business Council Foundation, the Northern Kentucky Community Action Commission, the Boone County Jaycees, the Northern Kentucky Manpower Council, the Kentucky Mental Health Association, the Kenton – Boone Cable Board and the University of Kentucky Boone County Extension Council. He has served on the Board of Northern Kentucky Senior Services, Ohio Kentucky Indiana Council of Governments, Diocesan Catholic Children’s Home, the Private Industry Council, the Covington Rotary, the RC Durr YMCA, the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce Board of Advisors, and CORVA.

Currently Pat continues as a Board member of NKITA. He is an active member of the Cincinnati Chapter of Friendship Force International and the Florence Rotary Club and serves on the Rotary Foundation Board. He serves as a Board Member of the Northern Kentucky Area Development District and the Thomas More University Alumni Association. Pat is the founding President of the recently created Boone County Public Library Foundation. Pat is also a CASA child advocate and is a jail minister for Catholic Charities.

Pat has an MBA from Xavier University and a degree in Business Administration and Economics from Thomas More University. Pat has received numerous community awards including being named as one of the Five Outstanding Young Persons of Kentucky by the Kentucky Jaycees, inducted in the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce Taking Care of Business Hall of Fame and was the recipient of the Thomas More University Alumni Citizenship Award for community service. Now retired, Pat resides on the family farm along the Ohio River in Rabbit Hash with his wife Patty.
