Welcome New Staff, Azalea Laverde!
Azalea Laverde is the Administrative and Communications Associate at the World Affairs Council – Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky where she provides program support and initiates creative marketing development.
Prior to joining the staff, Azalea served the community through hospitality, outreach, and local politics. During her college years, she worked to register voters on campus, dealt with constituent concerns at City Hall, campaigned for a local politician who platformed on disability advocacy, and worked as a resident advisor. In 2017, she was one of the first college freshmen to win the Tolley International Human Rights Scholarship, which she used to work as a teacher’s assistant in Guatemala while learning about the country’s history and political climate. In 2022, Azalea spent several weeks working on property restoration and farming throughout Europe.
Azalea shares a deep passion for travel and cross-cultural appreciation growing up in a bi-lingual home. With a deep fondness for the stories she’s collected both locally and internationally, Azalea took a few years to pursue film. While engaging with the local film and art community, she realized just how global this community is; thus, further developing her enthusiasm to work towards making this region a more inclusive and culturally aware city where everyone can succeed. Azalea graduated from University of Cincinnati, with a major in International Affairs and Political Science with a minor in Spanish and History.
Outside of the office, Azalea enjoys travelling, film, reading, and art. Who knows, you might see her on your local flooring commercial!
