Former Tech Girls 2024 Student Earns 2nd Place at International Science Fair

We are very proud to share that Mariem, a former Tech Girls participant, has been awarded 2nd Place in the Behavioral and Social Sciences category at the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF). This is her second time competing at ISEF, and her continued dedication and growth are truly inspiring. ISEF is the world’s largest international STEM research competition for high school students.
Mariem’s project, titled Nightingale, is a comprehensive system designed to support individuals experiencing panic attacks. The project includes a wearable device for early detection, a mobile application for guided treatment, and a support framework aimed at helping users lead more balanced, healthy lives. In addition to her Grand Award, Mariem received a Special Award from Sigma Xi, an international scientific research honor society.
We are also grateful to Vera Long, one of our long-standing host families, who welcomed Mariem during her time in the program. Reflecting on her experience, Vera shared:
“Home hosting was so much more of an exciting experience than I had expected. The girls were such a treat! They loved everything. Such inquisitive minds. They wanted to know how local politics work, what kind of food I liked to cook, all about family life and my travel experiences. I’m looking forward to meeting a new set of girls with new questions!”
As we prepare for this summer’s program, we are still seeking home hosts from July 26 –30 to welcome the next group of international students. Hosting is a unique opportunity to support young global leaders and to experience cultural exchange in a meaningful way.
Congratulations again to Mariem on her outstanding achievements! She continues to represent the spirit of curiosity, compassion, and innovation that the Tech Girls program encourages.
