This past Saturday, I had the joy of participating in From Leaf to Matcha: A Holiday Experience at Churchill’s Fine Teas—an immersive journey into the beauty, history, and craft of tea. The moment I stepped inside, I was struck not only by the depth of knowledge shared, but by the beauty of the technique itself, every whisk and pour, and the stories behind the teas made the experience truly unforgettable. I gained a deep respect for the traditions and cultural roots of matcha.

Angela Qu, owner of Churchill’s, lives by her tagline: “Fueling Inspiration, one steep at a time.” The in-house matcha cupcake was a delightful bonus—I’ve never had so much matcha in one sitting, and yes… totally worth the caffeine high! 😄
2025 was a year of challenges for Churchill’s, including a fast relocation to their new Madisonville location and the impact of shifting tariffs. But as Angela shared, “It was the community. Our loyal customers, our local partners, and neighbors who really showed up for us. We’re standing here because Cincinnati stood with us.”
The Madisonville shop now hosts small group private tastings, tea classes, and interactive tea-and-tale social hours, exploring traditions from China, Japan, England, and South America. Their holiday offerings feature unique collaborations, like the Charley Harper Art Studio tea-and-candle bundles, hand-crafted tea collections, Tea Advent Calendar Kits, and beautiful matcha tools and tea sets—perfect for both enthusiasts and newcomers.
Reflecting on the year, Angela adds: “This year taught us that we’re more than just a shop. We’re part of a community that cares deeply about its local businesses. And we’re honored to be here—stronger, more inspired, and ready to celebrate the season with everyone who supported us.”
