Community and Cultural Connections at the Covington Farmers Market
On Saturday, August 8, the World Affairs Council held its second Farmer’s Market & Friends event at Covington Farmers Market. The event provided a unique opportunity for the Council to raise awareness of its Dinner Diplomacy initiative while directly engaging with the Northern Kentucky community.
Farmers Market & Friends is an initiative funded by the Dinner Diplomacy grant from Global Ties, in partnership with Marriott International. This initiative aims to advance cross-cultural understanding by expanding opportunities for Americans to share meals with global leaders traveling across the United States on international exchange programs.

Although our visiting Indonesian delegation was ultimately unable to attend, our staff and volunteers still had a fantastic time engaging with the neighborhood. With coffee from Point Perk, pastries from North South Baking Co., and fun prizes, the World Affairs Council was able to meet with approximately 75 new and returning faces.
We want to thank everyone who stopped by our booth. A common sentiment that kept returning was the importance of fostering meaningful understanding across borders. Our home hosting volunteer opportunities focused on via the Dinner diplomacy grant does just that: food creates connection and is the bridge from cultural barriers.
