World Leaders Visiting Greater Cincinnati | Spring 2019
The International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) is the U.S. Department of State’s premier professional exchange program. Through short-term visits to the United States, current and emerging foreign leaders in a variety of fields experience this country firsthand and cultivate lasting relationships with their American counterparts. Professional meetings reflect the participants’ professional interests and support the foreign policy goals of the United States.
Through exchanges, Americans and people of other countries develop new skills, explore ways to create positive change in our communities and establish the trust we need to create a more secure, prosperous, and democratic world.
There are more than 1,000,000 alumni from the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and of these alumni 84 are Nobel Laureates and 583 are current or former heads of state and government.
Early in March, our Council hosted 25 International Delegates from Hong Kong, Egypt, Uzbekistan, and Uganda discussing Mental and Physical Disabilities, TESOL Education, and Lean Management Strategies.
The visiting delegation from Uganda discussed the topic of Mental and Physical Disabilities. During their time here in Greater Cincinnati, they met with professionals in the area to discuss The Americans with Disabilities Act, speech and language therapy, mental health treatment and countering stigmas.
Here they are pictured with Kevin McElfresh, Children’s Speech-Language Pathology Department as he demonstrates the language apps the department uses during speech therapy sessions as part of its nationally ranked program.
The multi-regional group visited on the topic, Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL). The group was comprised of English language teachers from Uzbekistan and Egypt.
Here the group is meeting with the Cincinnati Public library to discuss its literacy and ESL programming. In addition to a number of free programs open to the public, the Cincinnati Library’s main branch is one of the busiest libraries by circulation in the country.
A delegation from Hong Kong Polytechnic University came to the Greater Cincinnati area to discuss Lean Management Strategies. Our Council partnered with the University of Cincinnati to design a custom exchange program where participants toured the area and met with local businesses.
Here they are pictured with Hydro Systems Manufacturing Manager, Lee Brock who met with the delegation to give them a tour of the plant and discuss how the company integrates lean management practices into its manufacturing.
A special thank you to all the professional hosts who met with our delegates and the hospitality hosts who welcomed them into an American home.
