My IVLP Moment: Celebrating 80 Years
Cincinnati, OH December 3, 2020 – In honor of the 80th anniversary of the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP), the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) at the U.S. Department of State will host a virtual reception and storytelling workshop on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at 2:30 p.m. entitled “My IVLP Moment.”
The World Affairs Council – Cincinnati & Northern Kentucky has been hosting visiting in this region since 1923 as a nonprofit partner of the U.S. Department of State. In a typical year, we host more than 250 exchange visitors annually through the IVLP. Participants travel to the United States for short-term exchange programs designed to build understanding between professionals from abroad and local communities.
Through workshops, volunteer activities, and site visits, we work with local specialists across disciplines as resources for engaging and informative meetings for international leaders. These are exchange programs that matters and provide strong global ties to Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. Programs explore a variety of careers whether it’s regional trade issues, countering gender-based violence, cybersecurity or entrepreneurship.
Every IVLP participant has a story and moment to share. The virtual event will close the yearlong anniversary celebration of the IVLP and highlight opportunities to increase connections between the United States and other countries.
U.S. government officials, IVLP alumni from around the world, U.S. nonprofit partners, and representatives from Congressional offices will join the virtual reception. The nonprofit StoryCenter will facilitate a storytelling workshop to help the network highlight the historic legacy of the IVLP and create personal stories about the transformational power of international exchanges.
For the past 80 years, the IVLP has connected current and emerging leaders from around the world to the United States through short-term exchanges. With over 225,000 alumni, the program continues to build vital linkages between citizens in the United States and emerging leaders throughout the world. Throughout 2020, ECA has highlighted 80 accomplished IVLP alumni and the impact of their experiences on the global community.
