The Global Ties U.S. National Meeting is the premier annual gathering of international exchange and public diplomacy professionals and supporters from government agencies, the private-sector, nonprofit organizations, and academia. Held in the Washington, DC-area, the National Meeting brings together participants to gain high-level insights on trends affecting the international exchange and public diplomacy field, engage in in-depth professional development opportunities, and build networks to strengthen our missions focused on citizen engagement in foreign affairs.

The 2024 National Meeting theme is Diplomacy in Action: Raising Community Voices.

International exchange programs have long been a way to humanize foreign affairs. They are also a powerful platform to create a greater sense of civic engagement, community pride, and appreciation of diverse cultural groups. This theme dives into the critical, socio-cultural impact of our work and is also a call to action to ensure we’re reflecting the rich diversity of the United States. Exchange programs are for everyone, and by expanding access to global engagement and raising diverse voices, we can make our communities and our world stronger.

By weaving our theme into session programming, we aim to convey how we’re engaging, amplifying, and raising these diverse voices to build community, expand access to global opportunities, and advance our mission to power individuals, communities, and nations to build trust through international exchange.
