OVERVIEW: JOSEP is an animated biographic drama wrapped in 20th century history, based on real events, about Josep Bartolí (1910-1995), an exceptional artist and resistance fighter in the Spanish Civil War.
Best known for his sketches of life in French internment camps, 1939-1943, Bartoli’s subsequent life experiences inform his artistic evolution – captured in non-linear fashion by director Aurélien Froment (aka “Aurel”) by use of multiple styles to demarcate the periods in Josep’s life.
This powerful portrait of Bartolí’s triumph over adversity is fascinating, informative and inspirational.
