IVLP: Edward R. Murrow Program for Journalists: Media Responsibility in an Age of Disinformation I

The Department of State has outlined the following specific objectives for the project:
- Examine efforts at the federal, state, and local levels to counter the current threat
posed by dissemination of disinformation and misleading reporting; - Explore ways to verify reliable sources of information and counter misinformation;
- Discuss how influencers use social media and new technologies to amplify messages,
disseminate information, and connect with a target audience; and - Consider ways to foster a discerning audience of media consumers and to build trust
among media, the government, and citizens.
This program is named after Edward R. Murrow, a pioneer in radio and television journalism in the mid-twentieth century. Murrow became well known especially for his live reports from the rooftops of London in 1940 during the Battle of Britain, or “the Blitz.”
