The Department of State has outlined the following specific objectives for the project:

    posed by dissemination of disinformation and misleading reporting;
  • Explore ways to verify reliable sources of information and counter misinformation;
  • Discuss how influencers use social media and new technologies to amplify messages,
    disseminate information, and connect with a target audience; and
  • Consider ways to foster a discerning audience of media consumers and to build trust
    among media, the government, and citizens.

This program is named after Edward R. Murrow, a pioneer in radio and television journalism in the mid-twentieth century. Murrow became well known especially for his live reports from the rooftops of London in 1940 during the Battle of Britain, or “the Blitz.”
