IVLP: U.S. Energy Policy: Security, Independence, and Innovation

Themes for Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky

  • Review national and international energy initiatives, security measures, and policies related to resource regulation and development;
  • Discuss current energy considerations and deliberations with stakeholders and influential leaders in commercial industry, think tanks, lobby organizations, and citizen interest groups;
  • Highlight strategies for energy resource management, diversification, affordability, consumption reduction, technological advancement, research, and development; 
  • Examine ways to maintain and increase energy security by diversifying energy sources; bolstering energy infrastructure; and forging international collaboration;
  • Explore ways to transition away from fossil fuels to the use of renewable energy sources including an examination of the Inflation Reduction Act, which provides for investment into domestic energy production while promoting clean energy;
  • Examine how federal, state, and local programs are used to incentivize and foment climate action in the United States with an eye toward meeting its net zero commitments under the Paris Agreement; and
  •  Examine the role of academia and research institutions in energy innovation and security.
