SOTENI’s Celebration of Hope
March 1, 2019 @ 5:30 pm - 9:30 pm
$100SOTENI’s Celebration of Hope on March 1st, 2019 from 5:30 PM – 9:30 PM at The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.
The event will celebrate SOTENI’s mission and our vision for a brighter future for the people and villages of rural Kenya affected by HIV/AIDS. Support from community members like you is captured in the African philosophy of Ubuntu – often translated as “I am because You are”. Ubuntu manifests itself through human acts of generosity, openness, cooperation, and community. We look forward to joining together on March 1st and beyond to celebrate our connectedness to one another through compassion, courage, and community.
Ambassador Pamela E. Bridgewater will be us on March 1st, sharing stories from her extraordinary career as an ambassador appointed by Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama. She was the first African-American woman appointed Consul General at Durban, from 1993 to 1996, where she worked with Nelson Mandela during the transition of South Africa away from apartheid.
The night will conclude with tours of the special exhibition, “Mandela—Journey to Ubuntu” in its last night at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center. This exhibition helps us understand the role of forgiveness, leadership, truth, and sacrifice play in overcoming the challenges we face in society today.
Admission also includes hors d’oeuvres by Elegant Fare. Guests over 21 will enjoy an open bar during the welcome reception & immediately following the program, until 8:30 PM.
