State and Local Government IVLP Group

With delegates from Bangladesh, Burma, Cambodia, India, Malaysia, Pakistan, Republic of Korea, Sri Lanka, Timor-Leste.
The Department of State has outlined the following specific objectives for the project:
- Introduce the structures and functions of the U.S. federal system of government, with emphasis on the division of authority and responsibility between federal, state, and local governments;
- Demonstrate successful models of cooperation among state and local governments, non-governmental organizations, community organizations, and the business sector;
- Examine intergovernmental cooperative organizations, such as councils of government and regional planning authorities, as well as innovative public-private partnerships that allow state and local governments to provide enhanced services, encourage economic growth, and ensure public accountability;
- Examine various models of state and local governments that demonstrate how they function in the United States and interact with the federal government; and
- Explore the fundamental role of freedom of speech and expression in sustaining democratic societies.
This is a program of the U.S. Department of State, administered by World Affairs Council –Cincinnati & Northern Kentucky.
