SUMMARY:4th Annual Festival of Faiths
DESCRIPTION:  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n4th Annual Festival of Faiths is Now Open for Registration! Join us virtually August 22-29. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis year’s festival is focused around the theme\, “Compassion Through Action: We are in it Together\,” and will deliver a program filled with interfaith prayer\, music\, spiritual meditations\, lunchtime webinars about faith\, workshops for teachers and spiritual leaders\, a panel discussion for youth\, and more. Click Here to view the entire 2021 schedule of programs. \nIn its fourth year and in response to the lingering threat of the pandemic\, the Festival will again be presented virtually.  More than 50 community leaders joined this year’s Festival of Faiths Co-Chairs Penny Pensak\, Afreen Asif\, Bishop Marvin Thomas Sr.\, and Jaipal Singh to create 15 events with broad appeal for communities of faith\, families\, and all individuals seeking inspiration from the collegial and respectful interfaith relations they will witness throughout the weeklong festival. \nThe Festival activities will again embrace the 30 faith communities and 13 world religions that have participated in previous festivals. A few highlights include: \n\nAn Opening Interfaith Devotional involving prayers from more than a dozen religious traditions\nSpiritual Meditations practiced by 10 different faith traditions (3 sessions)\nSocial Action workshop\, ”Faith and Food:  Moving from Insecurity to Sustainability”\nCompassionate Conversations:  “What is the meaning of GRIT?”\nWorkshop on “How to be a Sacred Activist for Racial Justice“\nBeloved Community Youth Panel Discussion on the topic of Food Insecurity\n“People Got to Be Free” – An Interfaith Celebration in Music\, Song and Dance\, followed by the Closing Interfaith Devotional on August 28th at 4:45 pm.\n\nRegistration for all events is available here \nFestival Details: \n\n2021 Calendar of Activities & Registration: Learn more about this year’s events\, view the full schedule\, and register to participate.\nGet Involved: Volunteer\, become a sponsor\, or donate\nCelebrate this year’s Festival Supporters and Participants\nMeet the 4th Annual Festival of Faiths Co-Chairs & Steering Committee

SUMMARY:Nuancing National Security: The 21st Century Military
DESCRIPTION:  \nClick Here to Register\n\n\nA central mandate of any national government is national security\, but the responsibility involves much more than traditional military defense capabilities. Today\, while balancing military and diplomacy priorities\, national governments assess and combat threats in cyberspace and outer space\, water supplies and power grids\, food production and energy chains. In this six-part virtual series\, the International Relations Council will take a deep dive into the national security arena\, offering historical context and global perspective for core dimensions of national security and exploring the risks\, priorities\, and tactics on the radar of U.S. security policy. \nAbout the Speaker \n\n\n\n\n\n\n \nDr. Kyleanne Hunter\, PhD\, is a Marine Corps combat veteran with multiple combat deployments as an AH-1W “Super Cobra” attack pilot. She finished her active duty time in the Marine Corps’ Legislative Liaison Office in the House of Representatives. She is an Assistant Professor of Military and Strategic Studies at the United States Air Force Academy and the co-director of the Athena Leadership Project. She holds a Bachelors of Science in Foreign Service from Georgetown University’s Walsh School of Foreign Service\, and a Masters of Arts and a Doctorate from University of Denver’s Josef Korbel School of International Studies.\n \nDr. Hunter’s research focuses on the intersection of social integration and military effectiveness\, with a focus on gender and unconventional warfare. While completing her dissertation was a researcher in residence at University of San Diego’s Kroc School of Peace and Justice. She was co-primary investigator for the Nonviolent Actors in Violent Conflicts project funded by the Carnegie Foundation. Her work has been published in Journal of Peace Research\, Armed Forces & Society\, and Signs\, as well as popular publications such as The Washington Post\, The New York Times\, Foreign Policy\, Foreign Affairs\, The Atlantic\, and San Diego Union Tribune. She is co-editor of Invisible Veterans: What Happens When Women Become Civilians Again (Preager Press\, 2019) with Kate Thomas Hendricks.\n \nDr. Hunter is also an adjunct professor of Security Studies at Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service. She was the former Chair of the Employment and Integration Subcommittee for the Secretary of Defense’s Advisory Committee of Women in the Services (DACOWITS). She was part of the Department of Veterans Affairs inaugural class of “Women Veteran Trailblazers\,” and named as one of HilllVets 100 most influential veterans in 2018. She serves on the advisory board for Impact:PEACE.
