DESCRIPTION:Join us on Veteran’s Day this year\, to understand how women’s military roles evolved during the Cold War in order to understand the US military today – and in particular\, women’s defense roles. \nIn those decades\, servicewomen pushed back against limitations placed on them because they were women: while they generally didn’t call themselves feminists or activists\, they nonetheless fought for their rights\, and this changed what it meant for women to be equal\, not just in the military\, but also in the civilian world. \nDr. Tanya Roth is a local historian and high school history teacher with a history PhD from Washington University in St. Louis. Her research specializes in the role of servicewomen in the U.S. military. Dr. Roth will be releasing Her Cold War: Women in the U.S. Military\, 1945–1980 on September 30th of this year. The book discusses the impact and experiences of U.S. military servicewomen following the adoption of the 1948 Women’s Armed Services Integration Act. \nDr. Roth’s writing and research have been recognized by several awards\, including a fellowship from the American Association of University Women\, the Society of Military History’s Coffman Prize\, and grants from John F. Kennedy\, Lyndon B. Johnson\, and Gerald Ford Presidential Libraries.
