SUMMARY:Combatting Illegal Fishing IVLP Group
DESCRIPTION:With delegates from Algeria\, Angola\, Namibia\, Seychelles\, and South Africa. \n\nThe Department of State has outlined the following specific objectives for the project: \n\nReview best practices for law enforcement to deter foreign fishing vessels from engaging in illicit activity;\nObserve best practices in sustainable fisheries management and product traceability (from extraction to commercialization)\, and address the key role of maritime domain awareness (MDA) and interagency coordination;\nExplore state\, local\, and federal strategies for addressing illegal\, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing;\nEncourage collaboration between government agencies\, environment and policy NGOs\, think tanks\, fisheries-related industry representatives\, and other relevant U.S. stakeholders to deter IUU fishing in exclusive economic zones (EEZ); and to\nFacilitate conversation and collaboration on the successful creation and implementation of enforcement frameworks\, agendas\, roadmaps\, and/or joint programs particularly as they relate to overlapping and/or disputed territorial claims.
