Mitchell\, KY 41017\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us for this reception and information exchange as the NKY Chamber of Commerce\, in partnership with the World Affairs Council – Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky\, hosts a 20-member delegation from the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) for a discussion on US Foreign Policy Decision Making. \n\nThe program will look at foreign policy from a local level perspective\, immigration in the Midwest\, and tariffs in the Midwest. Program objectives include: \n\n•    Examine the process and key players in formulating\, articulating and implementing foreign policy in the U.S. federal system. \n•    Review U.S. foreign policy priorities and trends in U.S. international relations. \n•    Explore the domestic political and economic forces that influence U.S. foreign policy decisions \n•    Discuss how social media is transforming the practice and formation of foreign policy. \n\nMembers of the 20-member delegation are traveling from a multitude of countries\, including Argentina\, Bangladesh\, Djibouti\, Estonia\, Fiji\, Finland\, France\, Japan\, Kyrgyz Republic\, Lebanon\, Republic of Korea\, Republic of Turkiye\, South Africa\, Taiwan\, Thailand\, and Tunisia. \n\nThe International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) is the U.S. Department of State’s premier professional exchange program. Through short-term visits to the United States\, current and emerging foreign leaders in a variety of fields experience this country firsthand and cultivate lasting relationships with their American counterparts. DESCRIPTION:The World Affairs Council is hosting a delegation of high schools students from Eurasia traveling on TechGirls. The group will be in the region from July 22-26\, 2023 and are looking for volunteers who can host the group in their home for the week. Please let us know if you are interested by filling out this application (less than 1 minute) and email Emily Rose\, International Programs Lead\, at erose@cincyworldaffairs.org for more information. \nSince 2012\, TechGirls has trained and mentored 528 teenage girls (ages 15-17). The program began supporting girls from the Middle East and North Africa (Algeria\, Egypt\, Jordan\, Lebanon\, Libya\, Morocco\, Palestinian Territories\, Tunisia\, and Yemen). In 2019\, the program expanded to include young women from Central Asia (Kazakhstan\, Kyrgyzstan\, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan). In 2022\, the program underwent a global expansion to begin serving girls in six world regions (Western Hemisphere\, Sub-Saharan Africa\, Europe and Eurasia\, East Asia Pacific\, Middle East and North Africa\, and South and Central Asia). \nTechGirls connects and supports the next generation of women leaders in science\, technology\, engineering\, and mathematics by providing them access and opportunities to advance their skills and pursue their dreams.

A related issue – reparations – also touches on a topic of a speech given during the inaugural year for the predecessor of the World Affairs Council in 1923 about WWI reparations. Sen. Portman\, who prior to his retirement in January served on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee\, will share his views on these important topics followed by an opportunity for attendees to present their questions. \n**Space is limited. Portman Biography: \nRob Portman’s career in public service spanned three decades and included service in three presidential administrations as well as two terms in the United States Senate and six terms in the United States House of Representatives. \nIn the George W. He’s grieving the loss of his father\, but he loves to perform and make people laugh. \nQ&A with Ms. Shiiki will follow the screening (running time: approximately 25 minutes). \nThe event will also feature live music by Erik Santos (musician\, composer\, and Associate Professor of Composition and Performing Arts Technology at the University of Michigan)\, sharing his father\, Rosendo Santos’ music and personal story of moving to the US from the Philippines.  At age 11\, Rosendo Santos started composing band marches\, instrumental and vocal scores\, and Catholic masses. He was later named a UNESCO scholar and received the Composer of the Year Award. In Manila\, he was Composer of the Year in 1956 and 1957 and won 12 prizes consecutively in composition contests. On May 25\, 2020\, George Floyd was killed in police custody – awakening national protests. On Jan. 6\, 2021\, the nation’s Capitol was stormed by a mob that wanted to overturn a presidential election. \nCovering both was the Associated Press\, the stalwart news service that provides coverage of events in our home communities\, in the nation and around the world. As I write this\, AP reporters and photographers are in Ukraine\, covering the outbreak of a war. \nNext week\, on Thursday\, March 3\, at 6 p.m.\, three AP photojournalists who have been in the thick of the events of the past few years\, will visit Northern Kentucky University to talk about their work. The powerful images have helped to tell the story of America in our times. \nThe three are: \n\nKim Johnson Flodin\, a deputy news directors based in Chicago\, and one of AP’s photo editors who direct coverage.\nJulio Cortez\, staff photographer\, and part of the 2021 Pulitzer Prize winning team of AP photographers – his widely published photo taken on the night of May 28 in riot-torn Minneapolis shows a lone\, silhouetted protester running with an upside-down American flag past a burning liquor store.\nAndrew Harnik\, staff photographer\, is based in Washington\, DC\, and was among the AP team who covered the storming of the Capitol. His work has taken him around the world with top U.S. diplomats and all over the country with presidents and candidates for president.

In this session\, you will be inspired to “think globally and act locally.” Speakers from the City of Cincinnati’s Office of Environment & Sustainability and other area nonprofits will discuss the Green Cincinnati Plan\, a bold vision to put Cincinnati on a path to 100% renewable energy and advance the sustainability\, equity\, and resilience of our city. Be inspired to advocate for climate issues affecting your own community and learn more about volunteer opportunities to assist in the work that local leaders are doing to create a more sustainable future.

DESCRIPTION:  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n4th Annual Festival of Faiths is Now Open for Registration! DESCRIPTION:The International Friendship Family Program is designed to pair you with an international student at NKU to brighten their experience. Whether you’re an individual who can be a local friend or a host family who can provide food and shelter\, a willingness to learn about another culture and to share yours is all you need. \nWhen international students get here\, they often need assistance with crucial tasks such as airport pick-up\, opening a PNC bank account\, purchasing a cellphone SIM card\, electronic adapters\, or other household set-up items. You can also spend time with them like having picnics and showing them around town (take them to Newport on the Levee\, the Newport Aquarium\, or walk around the vibrant district near Hotel Covington). Bring them to local sporting events and visit local attractions. The sky is the limit! \nThe International Friendship Family Program is hosting a reception on July 28\, 2021 from 6:30 to 7:30 at NKU in the Student Union Ballroom for students to talk to locals and for you to learn more about this awesome program.
