Notes

Founded in 1873, the Cincinnati May Festival is the oldest, and one of the most prestigious choral festivals in the Western Hemisphere. The Festival drew upon the choral traditions of the many Cincinnati residents who were of English and German descent, whose countries were prolific in the formation of singing societies. Every May, the May Festival presents works that represent the pinnacle of choral literature from the 16th to 21st centuries, performed by vast choral and orchestral forces and an international roster of guest soloists.  It is the pride of Cincinnati, one of the few cities in the world today with an on-going commitment to choral music.  For two weekends in May, the world turns to Cincinnati for an unsurpassed experience in choral music performance.

By facilitating the open exchange of ideas, the World Affairs Councils also celebrate the principles of voluntary association and free speech.”
- George Bush, Former President of the United States
