Notes

Since 2004, the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center has educated the general public about the history of the Underground Railroad against the broader story of America’s struggle for freedom. In addition to this core programming, the Freedom Center develops exhibitions and programs to educate and raise awareness about the global issue of human trafficking and modern forms of slavery. The International Freedom Conductor Award of 2010 will be presented to His Holiness, the l4th Dalai Lama in October. Past honorees include s Rosa Parks, Desmond Tutu and Presidents H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton for their work on Hurricane Katrina and the South Asian tsunami.

My husband and I strive to be informed and welcoming citizen diplomats and have been very impressed with the community involvement that the World Affairs Council offers to ensure and foster the knowledge, exposure and opportunity to do so in our local schools, business communities and public at large. My children delight in the exposure to different cultures, ways of thinking and languages. I like knowing that as an organization, we’re making a meaningful impact at home and abroad.”
